Lost Lake and Lost Creek Canyon Rim Snowshoe

6 Hours

ONLY AVAILABLE AS A SNOWSHOE TOUR FROM NOVEMBER THROUGH MARCH!

Be aware that this offering is for the more hearty snowshoer, as the snow can be quite deep and tiring in spots. Don’t let that deter you though!

The view of the frozen Lost Creek waterfall from above is worth the effort to get there! From a petrified tree to a frozen lake, as well as glimpses of a frozen waterfall from an overlooked canyon rim, this snowshoe trip has a little of everything. More remote and wild than other offerings, an adventure here is sure to whet your appetite into more serious adventures off the beaten path of Yellowstone. The trek will be roughly six miles with a few hundred feet of elevation gain. Along the adventure, you may see elk, bison, coyotes, and maybe even signs of wolves.

THIS IS A PRIVATE TOUR FOR YOU AND YOUR GROUP!

Overview

Again, this is not an easy snowshoe. On this trip, you’ll be expected to travel over areas of snow that may have not seen any other adventurers in days or weeks. The effort is worth it, though. This area is known for bison and elk sightings, as well as an occasional path for the wolves that roam the region. On the trip we will look for wildlife and their tracks, as well as walk across a frozen lake, the meander around a forested canyon rim until we get to a viewpoint of Lost Creek Falls. The falls is largely unknown by the vast majority of visitors to the park, and this viewpoint is even less known.

What you may see

  • wildlife such as elk, bison and maybe even a coyote, fox or wolf
  • a frozen waterfall
  • sweeping views of the Roosevelt Area of Yellowstone
  • Remoteness

Itinerary

Day 1:

We will meet at the agreed upon starting time at the pullout by the Petrified Tree road. After discussing the day and going over safety issues, we will proceed along the closed road to the petrified tree before heading down a small hill to Lost Lake. From there, we will skirt the lake, scanning for wildlife before dipping into the woods to reach the canyon rim.
