Good news for everyone who overeats on Thanksgiving day! To help encourage people to get outside after the Thanksgiving, Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier National Park are offering free entry to all who wish to visit these public lands. Called Green Friday at Olympic and Mount Rainier National Parks, officials are excited to a help create new family traditions outside in wilderness. 

“The day after Thanksgiving is a great time for fresh air and a little exercise,” said Olympic National Park Superintendent Sarah Creachbaum. “Thanksgiving is a time-honored American tradition, and we invite families to create new traditions by enjoying a fee-free day at two of the Northwest’s premier national parks.”

On Green Friday, and everyday throughout the year, Olympic National Park and Mount Rainier National Park offers numerous family-friendly outdoor opportunities. From walking on amazing wilderness beach, to trapping through rainforest or climbing around on snow-covered ridges, exploring the National Parks after Thanksgiving is the perfect family tradition. Encouraging family time and togetherness, avoid the malls and stores and experience the true reason we live in the Pacific Northwest.

According to a press release by Olympic National Park:

Despite recent storm impacts, most park areas are scheduled to be open on the day after Thanksgiving. The Olympic National Park Visitor Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Hoh Visitor Center will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Weather permitting; the Hurricane Ridge Road is scheduled to be open during daylight hours.

At Mount Rainier National Park, the Longmire Museum will be open on Friday, November 27, as well as the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center up at Paradise.  Be aware that all vehicles must have chains to enter the Paradise Region of Mount Rainier National Park, no matter what the weather.
