In the past seven days, minors in Yosemite National Park have had some terrible luck. It started last week, when health officials confirmed a child who visited Yosemite had somehow contracted the plague, quite possibly while camping at the Crane Flat Campground in July. Now, one week after the conformation of the plague, another tragedy has hit Yosemite. On the morning of August 14th, 2015, park officials released a statement saying that a falling branch has killed two children as they slept in their tent at the Upper Pines Campground.

In a press release just issued by Yosemite National Park, they updated the public on this morning’s tragic event.

FALLEN TREE LIMB CAUSES TWO FATALITIES  IN YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

At approximately 5:00 a.m. this morning, a limb from an oak tree fell in Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite Valley, striking a tent in which two minors were sleeping. Park Rangers responded to the campground to provide medical assistance, yet both minors were deceased.

The names, ages, and places of residence of the victims are not being released. The incident remains under investigation.

“Our thoughts are with the families as they grieve this tragedy,” stated park Superintendent Don Neubacher.
