Are you planning a trip to Yellowstone National Park in 2024?

Here’s everything you need to know about the schedule for openings and closings of various facilities and attractions within the park. With specific dates provided, you can better plan your adventure in one of America’s most iconic natural wonders.

Please note that the following does not include information on trails, as the opening of these is variable and next to impossible to know far in advance. If you want trail conditions for Yellowstone, please contact me, as I am hiking them every week. I also lead hiking tours in the park all year long and would love to show you some rad places that aren’t seen by too many people. Click the tours tab at the top of the page for more information.


Bridge Bay

Roads open to Bridge Bay on May 10th, 2024. The Bridge Bay Campground opens on May 17th, 2024, and closes on September 2nd, 2024.

If you’re eager to experience Yellowstone Lake, mark your calendar for June 7th when the marina store and dock slip rentals become available. A week later, on June 14th, you can embark on motor boat rentals, lake boat tours, guided fishing/sightseeing charter boats, and backcountry shuttle boat service.


Canyon Village

The road from Norris to Canyon opens on April 19th, 2024. To reach Canyon from Fishing Bridge, the road opens on May 3rd. The Canyon Campground opens on May 31st, 2024, and closes on September 14th, 2024.

Canyon Village kicks off the season early in May. By May 10th, the Canyon General Store will open its doors, followed by the Canyon Park Store on May 13th. As of May 17th, the canyon lodge and cabins, along with all attached amenities, welcome guests. Don’t forget to check out the Canyon Bear Spray rental kiosk, opening on May 25th. Keep an eye out for the opening date of horseback rides near Canyon, yet to be announced.


Fishing Bridge

Reaching Fishing Bridge is possible from Canyon or the East Entrance on May 3rd. To get here from the South Entrance, you’ll have to wait until May 10th. The Fishing Bridge RV Park opens on May 10th, 2024, and closes on October 12th, 2024.

Starting May 10th, Fishing Bridge welcomes visitors with its gas station and store, followed by the Fishing Bridge General Store a week later. By May 25th, both the Fishing Bridge Visitor Center and Museum, along with the Fishing Bridge Park Store, will be ready to enhance your Yellowstone experience.


Grant Village, West Thumb, and the South

The road to Grant Village is scheduled to open on May 10th, 2024. The Grant Village Campground opens on June 7th, 2024, and closes on September 7th, 2024. South of Grant, Lewis Lake Campground opens on June 15th, 2024, and closes on October 14th, 2024

On May 31st, Grant Village comes to life with the opening of its gas station, general store, Lake House Restaurant, Grant Village Lodge, and Grand Village Post Office. The Grant mini-store opens earlier, on May 15th, while the Grant Village Visitor Center welcomes guests on May 25th. Additionally, the West Thumb Information Station opens its doors on May 26th.


Lake Village

Access to Lake Village from Canyon or the East Entrance starts on May 3rd. To get here from the South Entrance, you’ll have to wait until May 10th.

Starting May 10th, Lake Yellowstone Hotel and Cabins are open, along with their dining room, deli, and gift shop. The Lake Post Office follows suit on May 9th. However, the Lake General Store doesn’t open until June 7th, while the Lake Lodge Cabins welcome guests on June 10th.


Madison Junction

Madison can be reached starting on April 19th, 2024. The Madison Campground opens on May 3rd, 2024, and closes on October 19th, 2024.

Although not much is open in May at Madison, the campground opens on May 3rd, 2024. The Madison Information Station and the Madison Park Store will open their doors on June 9th.


Mammoth Hot Springs and the North

Mammoth is open and accessible all year long. The Mammoth Campground is said to be opening this year, but dates have not been announced. South of Mammoth, the Indian Creek Campground opens on June 14th, 2024, and closes on September 8th, 2024.

On April 26th, the Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Cabins, including various amenities such as the map room, gift shop, dining room, and terrace grill, are mostly open. The cabins specifically open on May 10th. Meanwhile, the Mammoth Clinic, Post Office, Albright Visitor Center, and gas station operate year-round, with staff fully available starting May 17th.


Norris Geyser Basin

Norris can be reached starting on April 19th, 2024. The Norris Campground will remain closed for all of 2024.

Mark your calendar for May 25th when the Norris Geyser Basin Museum and Norris Park Store open their doors. Additionally, the Museum of the National Park Ranger welcomes visitors on June 30th.


Old Faithful

Old Faithful can be reached from the North and West Entrances starting on April 19th, 2024.

In May, Old Faithful offers various amenities, including bike rentals, the Old Faithful General Store, the Medical Center, the Post Office, and the Visitor Education Center. The Old Faithful Snow Lodge, including lodging, cabins, dining options, and shops, is also open. On May 3rd, the iconic Old Faithful Inn opens its doors, followed by the Old Faithful Lodge Cabins on May 10th. The Yellowstone Tribal Heritage Center opens on May 20th, with the Old Faithful Basin Store following suit on May 31st.


Tower-Roosevelt and the Northeast

Tower-Roosevelt can be reached all year long, but the road to the Tower Fall area doesn’t open until May 10th, 2024 from Roosevelt and May 24th from Canyon. The Slough Creek Campground opens on June 15th, 2024, and closes on September 2nd, 2024. The Pebble Creek Campground and the Tower Campground are both closed for 2024.

In this area, not much is open in May. However, mark your calendar for May 24th when the Tower Fall General Store welcomes guests. On June 7th, horseback and stagecoach rides start, while the Old West Dinner Cookout begins on June 8th. The Roosevelt Lodge Cabins, dining room, and the Roosevelt Mercantile also open on June 7th, along with the Tower-Roosevelt Gas Station.
