The Stunning Panoramic Views of Sepulcher Mountain

8 Hours

ONLY AVAILABLE JUNE 1st to OCTOBER 31tst, 2024

Few can hikes deliver what you’ll get when hiking the Sepulcher Mountain Loop. Starting in Mammoth Hot Springs, the trail quickly leaves the bustling area, climbing up to a remote and rocky summit high above the Yellowstone River. Offering sweeping views of the region’s mountains, including glimpses of the Grand Tetons on a clear day, taking this tour will forever change your perspective on the Mammoth Hot Springs region of Yellowstone.

The hike is roughly 13 miles in length and gains roughly 3,500 feet, almost all of which comes in the first five miles. While strenuous, the payoff is indescribable once you are standing atop the unique mountain. Below you, you’ll see the Yellowstone River and the town of Gardiner, Montana. To the west, Electric Peak beckons. To the south, you’ll see the wilds of Yellowstone expand down to the Tetons.

After the summit, the trail slowly descends toward Swam Lake Flats to the south, switchbacking down a wide trail, covered with wildflowers in the summer. Bison roam, bears may be spotted and the feeling of serenity and solitude is impossible to ignore. On the way back, the trail passes through rarely-seen thermal features before returning to the infrastructure of Mammoth Hot Springs.

If you have ever wanted a hike in Yellowstone that will leave you speechless and eager for more time on the lesser-known trails of the park, this is the adventure for you.

THIS IS A PRIVATE TOUR FOR YOU AND YOUR GROUP!

Overview

The roughly 13 mile loop trail is one of the hidden gems of the Mammoth Hot Springs region of Yellowstone. While everyone else wanders the boardwalks, you’ll be hiking up to a mountain with breathtaking views in all directions. The loop trail then descends the summit, passing through another overlooked, yet truly gorgeous region of the park before passing through hidden thermal areas south of the infrastructure of Mammoth Hot Springs. We will end at the same stop at which we started, right at Liberty Cap in Mammoth.

Wildlife abounds, with sightings of elk, bison, pronghorn and marmots common. Bears and moose also roam the area, giving you an opportunity to spot these amazing creatures from afar, while on foot.

Few hikes rival Sepulcher Peak, making it the ideal hike for those looking for a serious, yet stunningly perfect trail day in Yellowstone.
