Mammoth Hot Springs Upper Terrace Snowshoe

3 Hours

ONLY AVAILABLE AS A SNOWSHOE TOUR FROM NOVEMBER THROUGH MARCH!

Snowshoeing the Upper Terrace at Mammoth is a nice substitute and much less expensive than booking a full day’s tour down to the geyser basins. This short and occasionally steeper-than-you-expect loop route is a great little jaunt, getting you up close and personal with a few of the park’s memorable features. For snowshoers, this trail is a great introduction to the region, as well as a chance to get to some of the lesser-seen winter sights. You’ll also have a chance to potentially see wildlife, as well as follow one of the original guided routes of the park, dating back to the 1800s.

THIS IS A PRIVATE TOUR FOR YOU AND YOUR GROUP!

Overview

Those who book a snowshoe tour with me will also be taken to a few geothermal spots not directly on the loop, giving a glimpse at sights unseen by the masses. The hike is a little over 2 miles in total with a few hundred feet of elevation gain and loss.
We will meet at the Upper Terrace parking lot in Mammoth.

Itinerary

Day 1:

We will meet at the scheduled time at the upper parking area for the Upper Terrace Loop. After a brief description of they and safety review, we will walk the route clockwise, getting the majority of the elevation completed in the first half mile. Along the route, we will also take in views of thermal features, going off the main trail and onto side trails a few times to see some of the lesser known areas. We will end after seeing Canary Springs and returning to the cars.
